We are very excited to add Introduction class to our evening class schedule with Certified Iyengar yoga Teacher, Samuel Cooper
Sam recently retired and moved to Beaufort after 41 years as a Presbyterian minister. He took up the practice of yoga nearly 10 years ago and for the last 7 years has practiced in the Iyengar tradition. Sam was certified to teach in 2015 and began teaching in Nashville. In 2014, he attended Geeta Iyengar’s intensive in Pune and will return to Pune in December to study at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Institute for two months. Sam has participated in numerous workshops let by senior Iyengar teachers including Manouso Manos, Lois Steinberg, Dean Lerner, Eddy Marks, and Mary Obendorfer. His primary teachers are Gary Jaeger, Rachel Mathenia, and Jan Campbell in Nashville.
Sam is deeply committed to the study of the art, science, and philosophy of yoga as disseminated by B.K.S. Iyengar and the systematic intelligence that it brings to his practice. A naturally curious person, Sam enjoys exploring the asanas, both new and familiar, to see what they have to offer on any particular day.
Sam and his wife Lily have three grown sons. An avid fisherman, Sam restored a 1969 SeaCraft which he named SeaWhatHappens, a name that reflects his approach to life.
Class starts September 6th, and will meet Wednesdays 6-7.15pm
This class focuses on classical standing poses, seated poses, inversions, and relaxation poses. It is the perfect choice for students new to Iyengar yoga or for students looking to build a stronger foundation in their practice. The poses that are learned in this class are a necessary foundation and it is recommended that students stay at this level for at least ten weeks.
